The concept arose from a keen examination of the composition of a traditional tool called Ingabo which symbolises patriotism, defence of national sovereignty and integrity. Ingabo also hap - pens to be a symbol for what the old Soras, before it became Sanlam, stands for. The shield is fragmented, subtly and poetically applied in the design of the new Sanlam towers. The curved edges of the shield are broken down and scattered all over the plot and are used as bold edges of the Sanlam skyscraper. A public space is shared between the new Sanlam tower and the old Soras building to create a profound relationship between the two. This space is left green and bits of the fragmented edges of the shield are planted in the space to stimu - late interaction and questions and as well guide the sensorial experience of users of the premis - es.
